Hello. I have a question about this English tole tea canister (now a lamp). A "creative" ;) child added some scratches to it. I love a good patina and natural wear, but these are more noticeable than I'd like! Any advice for treating/hiding/buffing these scratches.
This is my first post, so apologies if I'm posting in the incorrect category. Thank you!

I think you're posting in a correct area, just hang on and check back occasionally, and WELCOME @SamNC_GA to ANTIQUERS!! Personally, if you're handy with a small paintbrush and dabbing with some acrylics, I don't think you'd do any harm, and could probably do a pretty invisible fix.....that's MY opinion, but wait for others to chime in!! It looks to be old, so don't try to make it "perfect"....it's not and won't be again!! Just try to blend the repair in!!:happy::)

    Welcome on board!
I'd go with black Sharpie on the dark background and some brown shoe polish on the scratches in the yellow parts to mask the bright white.:)
Try to have a light hand when applying!;)

I'd use shoe polish BUT others may find that unorthodox.

I would try just the shoe polish. That was going to be my suggestion before I read the others. Sharpies can leave a shine. A little light stain might help the cream colored areas but hard to tell with out it in my hands.

Sharpies do have a sheen. And they can be indelible.

I have found them to have a blue-ish cast also, not dead black.

I just tested black #24 Posca on an envelope (paper) to show you:cyclops::)
It is true black, and not shiny! Resized_20220326_152133~2_476518777871698.jpeg

I often use black Sharpie to touch up Sindy eye paint, it's never looked blue or shiny in my experience ( but these are teeny amounts I use)
