Hi all . I was strolling through Hoodwill just minding my own business when these 2 lovelies screamed "buy me!" Oh how I fought them, but after seeing they were in perfect shape, sturdy as rocks and heavy to boot,I surrendered . :) Am I correct in assuming Renaissance revival, circa 1870s ? They scream quality(at least to me) ,I could only hope Herter ! Any and all input is always appreciated .

LOL, I bet! Nice chair but, if it's Herter it should have a Herter Bro's stamp.

$20 each! And the upholstery is perfectly fine. Lovely in fact. Late 1960s/early 1970s I'd think from the colorway and raised tapestry brocade.

Yes, I think that is correct, is it rosewood or walnut, Herter liked the rosewood dealio, ditto Belter.

Don't forget that George Hunzinger, New York also made fabulous chairs!

Indeed, how can you go wrong @ 20 bucks.
Handsome chairs even if not by a famous maker.

    Stone bargain!

Looks like walnut, ca. 1870. Not Herter (Most Herter is NOT labeled) or Hunzinger, but fine craftsmanship nevertheless. Glad you gave in to your better self! :)

Thats what really sold me was the craftsmanship. These things are solid. No creaks or wiggles or shakiness when you sit on them. And the weight surprised me too. Im SO glad I have poor impulse control ! :)

Sidebar: I take it that's your house in the background. I like the little arched mouse hole in the door. In fact, your place looks to be well worth photographing. How's about a little tour??

I like the brush on the cat door for additional grooming :)

If you are near Philadelphia PA, they could be Allen & Brother. My family had a set of chairs and couch with similar carving from Allen & Brother
