I Just sold an eight piece set of 1960's match luggage, and when I emptied them I discovered that the hat box was stuffed with sewing, knitting and needlework implements and supplies. Most of the stuff is obviously older than 1960's, so that gives me no clues.

Any clues as to the original purpose of this item?

Each beveled (amber and emerald green) glass "stone" is set in 1/2" by 1/2" brass (or gold-tone) metal bezel with 8 prongs on the back. They are individually mounted (probably by machine) on black fabric and there are remnants of black paper over the fabric. It is flexible, and since the stones are attached to the fabric "on the bias" it drapes nicely. This small piece weighs just about 1/4 oz, so a garment would be very heavy. I'm thinking an evening handbag, but that may be to "mushy" without a sturdy frame.

    Any other suggestions?

Mansons, you rascal you, do I need to send you an "old" rule/ruler for use in any future photos of items you choose to share with us? ;)

Just kidding but . . . I am attracted to and (sort of?) collect old wooden rules/rulers.

But the ONLY antique measure I can FIND in this benighted mess is this one - and while I know that you all are worthy of sterling silver in any measure, this one is near useless for photography......retractable feature and writing point not withstanding.

I do have an old folding/boxwood measure SOMEPLACE, but only the millimeter gremlins know its current location..............

    Hi,
I have my Gramps ruler. It is rosewood and brass folds up to 12" by 5" opens up to 72". I have used it since I was 5 years old. Have not used it in 7 yrs but I knew where it is (I think).
