    Hello!

I need some help with this red wool couch on a local "for sale" board. I am interested in it and going to see it tomorrow. The woman selling it said she purchased from an estate sale and just doesn't have room for it. It is 108" long and 35" wide. It is wool, but the back of the couch has a different material. She says she couldn't find any serial numbers or brand names on it. I am going to look tomorrow as well. I'm no expert, but I will take a look. :) She says the people she bought it from had a lot of Lane furniture.. but I know they mark most things with a number at least.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? She said it's definitely older.. but I can't be sure. I attached a full length photo and a few cell phone pics she sent to me as well.

    Thanks in advance!

    That's not where I'd put a mirror ! :hilarious::hilarious:

I don't know about the age of the sofa....but it's sure red !!!

& being wool ???? it might be tough to clean....and be full of smells, or even critters.....

I think its stunning ! Id jump on it in a second ! At one time it was very trendy to upholster furniture in contrasting fabrics, they still do actually. That fabric looks pristine, lucky you !

I think probably 60s or later. Not sure the fabric is original.

I was thinking that too! The wool would harbor smells, etc. I hope I can get a good sniff when I see it later today! But sometimes you can't tell until you get something home. :/ Thanks for responding! It definitely is red, and one of my favorite colors. I was drawn to it! :)

I was very intrigued by it as well! I almost bought it before my husband ok'd it ;) But I knew I had to do some research first, and it is a huge couch! Thank you for taking the time to respond. I never knew that about the contrasting fabrics, so that makes me feel better about seeing that. I thought maybe it had been repaired on the back. Thanks again!

I agree about the fabric, I was curious if it had been reupholstered. She wasn't sure, as she's second owner. I was thinking 60s/70s as well. I know not "antique" but I sure love this style. Thanks for your response!

    I like it!
It can be cleaned. Check your local ServiceMaster and see if they have an certified upholstery guy with a dedicated upholstery machine, not the carpet unit.
p.s. The reason I suggest them is that the parent company stands behind their independents to guarantee their work.

Mad Men style! The low back and arms are definitely 70's looking to me, although the tufted look is more traditional. Brad - would you call this a "transitional" look?

I would. It is sort of an updated Chesterfield sofa.

Thanks! I just knew there was a name for those older tufted sofas, but couldn't think of it.

    Hi,
I bought a very similar sofa only in off white back in the 70s. It was 106 or 108" also. I had an old apartment where they tore down a wall and I had this very long room (more like a hallway) and the sofa was a perfect size. Especially with the large end tables I had. They were also as big a card table with shorter legs.. With all my animals and "friends" who stayed over I was glad I had off white instead of all white. Egad I miss the 70s.

Thank you for the tip! I will look for my local ServiceMaster. I'm sure it'll need a little sprucing up, but hey, maybe I'll be really lucky! Going to check it out in a couple hours. Thanks for the reply! :)

That's a great story! I can envision that set up. Too funny! I am glad you all are more knowledgeable on this couch than I am :)

Should there be any names/brands or serial numbers on it? I figured there would be, even on something from the 70s era. Would it be a deal breaker if it had nothing stamped on it? What should I be looking for quality wise, anything? I'll have my husband with me and I think he'll be a good judge (size and weight wise when sitting on it, hehe), but it doesn't hurt to ask :)
