I just bought this lovely box from ebay but when I put it together with my other boxes, I start to wonder if this could be an indian reproduction? Cuz I found its photo on an indian website but they don't have the actual image of it.

So you can see the glass appears to be greener than another authentic box, and given the similar size, the claws are less delicate. Also, there's no leather or tin sheet at the back. And most suspicious is the silk pad, a replacement or original to a newly made repro?

But it does have signs of wear and age all over it. It's also missing a hook or something on the lid. Two other boxes with same construction but missing the silk are described as 1900s by the auction house. The one from the link I posted, has a sticker with Lisbeth Dahl and www.lisbethdahl.com, but that page now only has links to other sites .
But on Etsy there are some other items by Lisbeth Dahl, such as this one

Thank you this is very useful find! Now I don't know what to do with my box:( surprisingly that amazon link says these boxes are manufactured in Denmark? Guess there won't be big difference in price... I was so happy to see it arrived safely across the sea but so dissapointed to find out it's a repro...

Lisbeth Dahl is a Danish brand

    Here's their Pinterest page pinterest.com/lisbethdahlcph/
No recent activity there, as I'm only seeing pics of 10/11/12 years ago, and it mentions the site that's no longer run by them

So the seller offered me £10 off which I guess I'll just accept :dead: international returns are too risky. And she's not convinced with my argument...

I think that, if it was sold as gilt and it isn't gilt, that would already be enough to report this to Ebay to try to get your money back or a higher discount.

Yes, I agree that is better than an international return and hope for a complete chargeback minus the shipping. When I have bought things that were not as expected, I used them as gifts to others.

But it’s harder to prove this isn’t gilt:dead: and I think ebay would only ask you to return it for full refund if not as described?

It’s not a big amount (slightly higher than the price on the tag) anyway so making it a gift sounds great ;)

Luckily you eventually returned it. I would fall for this one if I didn’t checked the bottom.

I knew at least four auction houses has sold mine as antique :dead: wouldn’t have spot anything wrong if I didn’t have three genuine examples ready for comparison

I was honestly surprised there were modern versions of these.

Clearly there's a market for these. I know 2 people who bought this type of modern versions ... :bag::sorry:

I knew there were lots of Indian reproductions, but this still tricked me. And even harder to tell if one cannot see it in person.

Some of the repros can be mid 20th century, so qualify for vintage, slightly better than those made last week:angelic:
