Not mine, and this is the only photo there is.
    Isn't this a spice holder?
Anyone remember where they are from?

    Thank you kindly.

It looks like a rather arty cow-pat.

I fully realise this is not helpful.

Can you show a picture of it open? I have no idea but also think India. I just want to see what it looks like. :)

    Hi,
It is from India but for colored powers for certain holidays. A lot of posters thought they were for spices but the Indian community where I used to live had these in all kinds of shapes for powers not for spices.

Greg, I think you meant to type "powders"... but "powers" sounds like much more fun! I'm thinking of I Dream of Jeannie powers, or even Superman powers... :)

Bev. that is the only photo there was - it's not mine.
I just was pretty sure I knew what it was. :)

Now, with what Greg has posted, I am no longer sure. LOLOL

Ah! Thanks to Greg's post, I think I found them.
    Tikka box.
However, there still is not a lot of info about them - at least that I can verify.
Some say it is for spices for Tikka (like tikka chicken), and others say for colored powders for make-up.

Ah, but don't forget that Ganesha - my favourite Hindu deity - also shows up in Indonesia. And London! ;)

    Hi,
Sorry about that it is powder. Seriously, in Islin NJ which is considered "little India" there are hundreds of Indian stores selling these things for as Bev said the Holidays. Most of the ones for spices are plainer and smaller. The fancy ones are used for powders. I have bought several and sold them at yard sales. One Indian lady liked mine to keep her "dots" in. I would spray mine with oven cleaner to keep them looking older. Most of them were brass and some that were iron.

There's a Holi festival in Atlanta every year. I guess every big city has one. For those who don't know, you wear all white and throw colored powder at each other. My daughter goes to it. Her husband is Indian.
