Something to do with rope making? Does it have a groove on the wheel?

Looks like a marriage to me. The stand is of a different wood and unfinished.

It's a force multiplier. The wheel must have, or the original had, a groove for spinning or winding something. Maybe part of a winch system for a barn?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

So, a homemade something that spins and may lift other things with all the right parts?

I am trying to imagine a practical use of a hand turned wood wheel today. It could be something associated with hand looming. I saw something like this at the Scottish village in Nova Scotia.

Apparently, some knitting and crocheting folks aren't satisfied with the myriad yarns out there and prefer making their own fibres. My girlfriend has made me some beautiful hats, scarves, and even sweaters over the years, but she hasn't gotten into making her own yarn — yet! :)

Now you got the perfect gift. Give her a sheep for Valentines, and you are good to go.:)

The frame appears to be made from hem-fir and the wheel from maple. There seems to be an adjustable counterbalance opposite the handle.
My best guess is a novice's attempt pf a perpetual motion machine. :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:
