Can anyone tell me what this is? When conducting image searches I got a lot of similar vessels that were old car ashtrays. It doesn’t smell like ask, but it makes sense with the thick walls and bottom. I’ve assumed for years I’d come across what this is but it’s time to just ask!

Ideas? Sorry it’s not something really exciting! At least I don’t think so...

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Looks like it might sit in a double boiler??? Oh, just noticed the size....that's small.....guess I don't know either....others will chime in at some point!! Is anything written on the bottom??

Nothing is written on the bottom or anywhere - the inside is very bumpy/unfinished.
Inkwell? Perhaps? The top doesn't really seal though so it wouldn't be good for moving around or the ink drying up but I don't know anything about inkwells so I have no idea... it's small and it's hung around for so long. The color difference towards the bottom makes me think is sat in something else for a long time.
