This piece was found in an auction lot. There was a note to bottom saying it was bat printed, implying regency dating. It appears to be overglaze, rather than underglaze as the craze lines are obscured by the print. This has been languishing in the stock room as a possible retro piece but I'd welcome your views.

My gut feel is that it's later - the base doesn't look right for early 19th. (Portmeirion did a lot of this stuff, much unmarked, too.)

Think you've nailed it, Portmeirion Sporting Scenes, a Portmeirion retro piece. Thanks very much

You're most welcome, reassuring to know my brain still works! ;) The unmarked stuff is usually earlier - 60s or 70s.

If it is over glaze, you ought to be able to see the print sitting on top. Light will reflect differently off the ink than off the glaze. If a bar of glare running down the side does so smoothly and uninterupted, then the print is under glaze. The easiest, and most common, example to compare would be an over glaze back stamp.
