I have a copper and wood print block. It measures about 3 3/4" by 2 1/2". It is the same as one of the postage stamps made to promote the upcoming 1925 International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts:

This is too big for a stamp, and too small for a poster, so what was it used for? Thanks for any help.

It does look like a real printing block, but it would be monochrome where the stamp has 2 colors, and there would necessarily be a printed border to show the perforations.

Given it's size, I think a stamp collector would like it as a paperweight, even if it didn't start out that way.

I thought that as well....and had been kicking it around...until I saw something shiny. ;)

How about a postcard? If there was a border around it to bring the size up to 3 1/2" by 5 1/2"? Maybe the post office made some?

It could have been used for cachet envelopes from the era.

Pretty sure this is a wood mounted engraving from letterpress printing days. There would have been one for each colour as every colour was a separate pass through the press. The registration was a nightmare.

That stamp was only a two-color job, so it wouldn't have been as bad.

True, it was surprising how good they could get it even with full colour and also being mindful of sheet waste.

    Thanks for the links Debora.

I could just put it on ebay and let it fly....but I am obsessive about knowing exactly what I am selling and I don't feel that I do yet... :(

I'm the same way. There must be a collector forum somewhere. given subject.

    Hi Book,
So I thought. I found 6 post cards sent from the Exposition by this guy who described a lot of the items. Everything was wonderful until I offered them up on eBay. This was in 2003. I thought that I would ask 30 dollars for the post cards. Guess what the highest bid I got, it was 12 dollars. One woman was interested in the item but wanted me to send them to her first. I politely refused and thought that was that. About 5 months later I was reading an article on Art Deco and the woman's name suddenly popped into my head. She was quoting my post cards as her own. I ended up giving them to a friend who was really into Deco.
