Primitive Steel Bottle, Multi-Piece, Brazed & Riveted

    It's ~5" high, ~4" wide, ~3 1/2" thick, ~1 1/4" mouth; weight is ~6 1/2 ounces. Made of hand-formed sheet steel, with the 2 major body panels 'stitched' an' brazed, the neck formed of 3 pieces, then riveted to the body. The 'dimple' that forms the foot has been hammered into concave. I've got no clue what it was made to contain; the interior is pretty uniformly rusted.
    Google Lens has maybe ~300 of them, attributed to Turkey, India, WWII canteen, an' many various guesses.
    What do y'all know for sure...if anything? Thanks for lookin'!

    I wonder if it might have been originally covered in leather, or rattan.
