    Hi,
You would think that having the label in place would make this easy, but when searching it comes up Acapulco pottery. Has anyone seen this label or know anything on the company?
    thanks for looking. 10805178_1028477583844964_619251033_n.jpg 10752045_1028477563844966_1447782730_n.jpg 10814143_1028477603844962_1474386200_n.jpg

    Hi,
Your vase is giving me a "Fiesta" vibe with those rings on the base. The 30s were known for shapes like that. I know it is NOT HLC but I am seriously in love with it. I wonder if you could break down the name like
Al-pottery co. With the Indian symbolisms it should be somewhere.

Greg, you do know that Bauer had the ringware before HLC did?

Fiesta was kind of a ripoff of ringware because it was so popular.

I tried the same approach (company name starting with Al with Pottery Co) going through the A section of Lehner's Ency of US Marks. None showed the mark on your pot, although I was hopeful with Alamo Pottery Co of Texas which was in the right time frame and more likely than any others to have a "western" style motif.

That means it's either not US, but Canadian, or so obscure as to have been flying under Lehner's radar.

    How tall is it?
I'm with Greg , it's one GOOOD lookin' piece.
    Never heard of 'em though.
Strange because it has a pretty darn well made look to it.
Without the label I'd cast a vote for Zanesville stoneware. Maybe a line of theirs.

    Hi Messi,
I knew that about Bauer but also Hall and several others. I have a set of Bauer mixing bowls and couple extras that I use all the time.

    Hi Don,
Zanesville was in my mind then I saw the 2s on the bottom and I dismissed Zanesville.

Thanks for looking folks. Bakers, I tried the same as you and came up with nothing. With a label you would think there would be another one out there.
I was posting this for Tamara, she has now joined the forum.

By searching on Alpoco in quotes so google would not try to correct it to Acapulco I found several obit listings (as in 2 or 3 - not lots) for an Alpoco, Wyoming County, West Va. in the 1930's and 40's. One historical gazetteer of West Va. lists it as having been founded in 1917. Searches didn't turn up anything else except an Alpoco Rd (also spelled Alpoca) in Bud, Wyoming County, West Va., so I checked that out on google earth and found this:

The map info for the Alpoca ref. point is Alpoca, WV 25882.
So maybe there was a pottery in the area sometime? I don't know pottery well enough to know if this was an area of historical production. - cheers

Hi Cxgirl and Tamara. I was getting confused with who was who. Tanara you are most welcome. Can I ask what part of the country was this vase found? At 12" it is even more attractive. I love the shape and the glaze.

Just a wild guess? Could Shawnee haave made it and the label was another factor? I am looking for arrowhead labels now. :p Never mind. I give up.

Thank you for the warm welcome! The vase was found at a Jackson, Ohio estate auction. The woman had owned 2 antique malls, one in Hocking County, OH and had a huge collection. I believe there were several auctions held, but I only found out about the last one of her estate, some of it had been in storage. There were a lot of pieces of Ohio pottery at the auction including quite a few experimental pieces. I did some research on Alpoco, WV last night, it came up as Alpoca, but didn't come up with anything. It is now a dead post office, but was current as of 1976. I appreciate all of you for helping me.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Just to make sure... two different people have one of these? Cxgirl and TamaraHicks?
