Morning everyone! Came across this in the kitchen while working apologize for the sticker it was already there when I found it. I'm not real familiar with Royal Doulton Silicon Lambeth and saw there are many things going on with the writing and back stamps. Can anyone help me sort things out? guesstimate on the height at probably 7"-8" to the top of the lip.
Edit: Sorry about the extra file)
    Thank you,

Always seems odd when a 100+ year old piece doesn't have any base wear or soiling. Apparently these types of wares were often just sitting behind glass or packed away that long.

Im always a little leery too when the items are pristine, but it does happen that some just were never used. It LOOKS right, but $40 seems a little high.

It's absolutely spot on and right. I've a lot of Doulton Lambeth. The bases actually clean pretty well - don't forget that this factory made all of London's sewage pipes, so the stuff is pretty tough. I'll go and haul out the Doulton bible and work out the decorators marks in a bit. They can be quite complex - you've decorators, artists, assistants and pattern numbers to deal with. As to the price, it's about right for retail.

Nice pattern, and looks like 1890s or so, but I'll go ferret a bit......

Thank you everyone for chiming in. I thought at first it was a but much until seeing the marks, then started to look in completeds. Thanks for looking Ownedbybear, I would love to know all I can about it if at all possible.

    Thank you again everyone!

Just a point, NEVER photograph anything towards a light source like a window unless you use fill in flash or are trying for artistic effect. It is also advisable to take a few seconds to remove items from the general clutter and show them lit from the camera side (behind the camera or beside it) and against a neutral background.

Doulton Lambeth stuff has declined quite a bit in value in the last few years as it has fallen out of decorator's fashion.

OK, the marks. You've a LOT of decorators there!

The Silcon Ware mark is 1880 to 1891.

1884 is the pattern number, and falls in the range used from 1887 to 1893, so that pins the pot down to about 1887 to 1891.

The main designer mark is Frances E Lee, who specialised in Silicon Ware with incised and carved foliage and flowers. 1876 to 1894 at Doulton.

The thing that looks like an H could be Miss H Wilkinson who worked in the Faience Department at some point between 1890 and 1914 as an assistant.

The thing that looks like a scruffy P or R with a dot may well be Miss S Pearson, same info as for Wilkinson.

The line with two dots and the S L are junior artists I can't find at the moment, still pawing through the book.

What I love about Doulton is the fact that you can identify down to the last brushstroke who did what.

Ownedbybear that is awesome! Thank you so much taking the time for all that information and typing it too. It's a pretty piece.

afantiques, Thank you for the reminder on my photos. I should know better since my Father was a professional photographer most of his life.

    Thanks again everyone!

You're most welcome. It looks as though the SL mark is an unknown. The line with two dots could be one of several juniors. The key thing is that it's Frances E Lee, who is a top end designer. Not up there with the Barlow sisters, or Tinworth in terms of value, but a good one. There's actually a photo of her. Your pot is in direct contact as it were, with a known person who lived and worked in the late 19th century.

London is, by the way, built of and on Doulton. Sewage pipes, railway arch tiles, building fascias, and all sorts of public works. Even, railway insulators - I have one in my garden.

I'd kill for a Doulton Pushkin cat or one of their garden cats. Five figures!
