I’m thinking Japan but could be totally off.

    gives me a French country feeling. old "grès à grand feu" where they went up to reachable max. with the woodfire to get that cristallisation and flow glaze.
    E.g. Mougin Brothers fired up the kiln for two days before starting the process.
    Puisaye perhaps.
