Pottery, 2 angels, some kind of S&P holder or condiments?

This thing has me stumped, H&S not sure what that is. I thought salt and pepper but can't find pepper spelled with an H in any language. One of the containers is missing. It is heavy, measures 7 1/2" by 5 1/4" at the base. Appreciate some comments thanks!

 

Inkwell? I don't know the H S either.

Use “inkstand” when searching, it holds inkwells.

 

we just dug some candle wax out of that small container, now my dad says maybe its an altar. I told him if I put a candle in a coffee cup it doesn't make it a candle holder. LOL.. I mean he could be correct but I thought it was funny.

 

H.S. could well be "Holy Spirit."

Maybe sealing wax if someone was using a dip pen to write letters.

 

Or someone who didn't know what it was used it for votive candles

 

Definitely an inkstand, the missing part may have been a sander and not another inkwell.
From these photos I can’t tell if it has honest wear on the bottom.
I’d inquire at Crocker Farm on this one.
