    Good evening,
I wonder if anyone can help me identify the stone of this ring, was sold as opal, but this looks very different than any opal I have seen so far. It’s very similar to peacock eye (glass), with green and blue shades, but this looks like a real stone, not glass. It is set in 9 carat gold.
Lastly, I wonder if anyone can comment on is the age and style of this ring?
    Thank you.
    Kind regards,
    Simona

    I am not seeing opal.:(
    1. The position of the colours stays exactly the same in every photo, which never happens with an opal.
    2. Opals don't have that blurry effect, but it is a feature of some types of art glass.

Period wise, those double prongs are often seen on Art Deco rings, and they loved to experiment with art glass in jewellery in those days (also in the Art Nouveau period). So it could be AD.

Agreed, I’m seeing dichroic which is why I’d like a side shot.

This is the best I could do, against phone light. It looks like the base is green and there are blue particles that give this blue shine.
Thank you so much for helping.xx

IMG_2022.jpeg I don’t really buy jewelry but I still regret not buying this beautiful ring. Sold as a vintage opal ring. I thought the setting with the hands was just absolutely grand. Also it was quite a bit of money but stil I think I should have..

Traditionally a Claddagh Ring is passed from mother to her eldest daughter. However, more modern tradition has the claddagh ring being presented to a child by a parent or grandparent as a coming of age gift. Claddagh rings can also be presented as engagement or wedding rings.

& in some quarters opals are seen as bad luck...

    So...there's that !!;)...:playful:

Was the ring shank gold or silver. It's a bit rare to see black opals with a high dome.

I believed it was all vintage looking gold.
