Found this for scrap and I am going to attempt to reshape. I can't quite make this mark out but I feel like I have seen something similar before. Is it a maker's mark? Any input?

did you test for gold ? might have been an ingrown wedding ring that was cut off of the finger when owner passed away.

Crown was a mark for gold purity here. Late 19th C, it either just had this partial mark, or the rest got cut.

The thought of being cut off of a deceased person is quite unsettling. But there are a slew of other reasons as to why it may have been cut I would assume no?

Take a clear photo of both sides of the "cut". The photo above does not appear to be a cut edge.

agree, but the funny marks may come from a small sidecutter. or an old person had circulation problems in her fingers and the doctor cut it.
