    Looks like a modern repro, but do a search for 'chinese blanc de chine pierced Prunus porcelain'

    Not sure about it being a lamp base. If the flex comes out of the base then the whole thing becomes unstable. Do you mean a candle light @blooey?

    Good point about the flex; however, it could have been used as a hanging pendant-style lamp; or might have had a wood base which would have the groove for the flex:

    They almost always have a wooden base.

    The cover on yours is missing; it too would have a hole in the centre.
