I've had this a while and have researched him like fury, but can't find a thing. A nicely done bust, I can't for the life of me decide what his constume is. Gut feel is 19th C Austrian or German made. Opinions please?

Is it a larger piece? Couldn't tell from the photo.

Could well be a Greek boy, though I am no expert on national costumes.

It kind of looks like one of those paint-it-yourself pieces from a craft studio.

It's a lot finer than that, albeit I know what you mean. The face is really well done bisque, and the rest is nicely under glaze.

Could it be 1/2 of a pair of bookends?

Interesting idea. It's a bit light for that, but it could well be one of a pair.

    This is a military uniform.

Certainly looks Greek to me. Perhaps meant to be a shepherd boy.

Thanks! What's interesting is that his clay ground, shape and decoration technique is very much reminiscent of Austrian and German porcelain. So, whilst he may well be meant to be a little Greek lad, I doubt that's where he was made. ;)
