Hi folks. First off, great forum.

My wife's been given a small figurine as a gift and we're wondering what it is and how old it might be. I've got to admit I'm out of my depth with antiques in general and more specifically pottery.

It's around 8" (20cm) tall & the predominant colours are pink & green. It actually needs a good clean but probably not by me if it turns out to be what I think it might be.

The mrk on the base resembles the crossed swords found on Meissen pieces but it's not exactly the same as I've seen online so who knows?

Here's some pics for anyone to have a look at..

Like I say, those marks are very close to the Meissen marks but I suppose it could be a fake. The person who gave it to my wife knows his stuff though so I'm inclined to think it might be genuine.

Thanks in advance for any info you good people can provide and any tips on how to safely clean it would also be appreciated.

    Gordon.

It's a nice figurine but not Meissen. Not the mark. Not the quality. Don't know who.

Thanks for the input folks. That would be a shame if it's not Meissen because my wife is under the impression that it is. That's certainly what the original owner thought. Actually, I don't know that for a fact but I think so.

I have to say I'm not a fan of this type of 'art' whover made it but my wife does like it. She's a gardener so it kinda fits.

I'll wait to see if there's anyone else who can verify it one way or the other before I say anything. In fact, I might not say anything either way as she likes it & probably won't want to part from it. Still..

    Hi,
I clean figurines like these with a bathroom spray foaming agent. It will get all the dirt off. Sometimes take two sprayings but it will all come off. I would not use this on cold painted items but if the piece is fired it's okay.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Chris Marshall also drops by this forum sometimes -- on some rare occasions. Writing to him might be a way to go.
