I acquired this beautiful piece but I’m not sure what this is or where it might be from. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d really appreciate it.

It looks like it might be some type of instrument.

    Welcome, Sfrog.
It looks like it could be Balinese, it is much like their wooden bells. Is that twisted wire (spring) inside?
Nice shape, and it looks antique to me.

Yes it is a twisted spring inside of it. I thought that it might be a slight drum?

Ah, we call that a 'tong tong', after the sound. But I've only ever seen the long ones, and never with a spring inside.
Tong tong was also the name of the first Dutch-Indonesian cultural organisation here in the Netherlands.:)

In Indonesian, kent(h)ongan literally means something pertaining to the 'tong' sound, in this case the instrument producing the sound.

More examples can be found online using "kentongan" (without the "h"). But I have not found any mention of a spring inside. I imagine it would give it a more rattling sound, or maybe a "boing".

I also couldn’t find anything with a spring, but the nails used and spring look original to the piece, I don’t think they were added years later. What are you thoughts?

I would also guess rattling, rather than a boing. It is certainly unusual.
