I just purchased this sugar bowl (part of a set with teapot and creamer). I can't figure out the maker. Plus, it's HUGE - it measures 7 inches high and 9 inches from handle to handle. And it weighs 1 pound, 12 ounces.

There is no maker's name. only a figure of a centurion? warrior?
It also seems to be quite crudely made, except for the fabulous finial. sugarbowllarge4.jpg sugarbowllarge4.jpg sugarbowllarge2.jpg sugarbowllarge3.jpg

    Any ideas?

I tried everywhere I could find - still no luck identifying the maker.

I am not certain that is a maker's mark, but it looks like a simplified version of the seal of New York City. That's a native American.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

If I'm not going to use something like this but have this kind of provenance, I like to copy and save, and stick it IN it, so I at least know the or some of the research has been done on it!!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

That appears to be in very good condition for something plated... and also old!

Wouldn't surprise me if the finial was silver, possibly off an English teapot. If you take it off and look underneath there may be some hallmarks.
