    dear all

need help with origin and age. so far, my guess is: platter english? (edit:forgot the "made in England stamp"), bowls thai brass? :D

the platter polishes up very nicely, cos i did the bit where the name was. cannot make out the name though. would it be EPNS? and the feet are plastic, right?
the bowls have no mark. i was thinking may be may have been bought for fruit offerings at the alter. since i do not know who these belong to, i have no date estimates :shame::p:happy:

    regards

Looks like it just says "The Quality Plate" and "Made in England", so yes, likely EPNS, but I am not familiar with which firm used that line.

'Quality' for sure. 'Plate', probably. But simply can't make the first bit into 'The', no matter how much I look. Unfortunately, what I think I do see is no help at all: Mic or Mio.

Oh my goodness, I just realized that the word "Quality" is written in the (what I consider old) way I learned in school -- that being the capital "Q" looks like a large, somewhat "fancy" "2" to my eyes.

Just curious, did any others here learn to make their capital "q's" as a fancy "2"? ;)

I think it says CELTIC QUALITY PLATE.

(And, yes, I learned to make cursive Q's that looked like 2's!)

@SBSVC You're absolutely right! Here's a listing with a picture of the marking that includes the initial C (which seems to be missing on Phaik's piece.) You do have to use the mouse-over function to zoom in on the image of the bottom.

I tried to find an example on silvercollection (figuring he has a much wider range of English plate marks) but did not see it, even in the "unknowns."

The 2 shaped Q was standard cursive when I learned it, 40+ years ago. Haven't used it much since.

I did, but probably never did again once I no longer had to do exercises in learning Palmer method cursive.

Now kids learn 'keyboarding'. Think they started to call it that because if they had continued to call it 'typing' no guys would ever have learned to use a computer, since we all know typing is only for girls. ;)
