This is maybe 60s-era wood panel with fleur de lis, scrollwork, candle holders and a plaster bust. I think it's the Madonna but the wife thinks it's too voluptuous... BDCF7C3E-8152-4DC8-826C-C8626CE1A3E7.jpg IMG_3132.JPG IMG_3131.JPG IMG_3127.JPG

The Madonna as portrayed by Raquel Welch maybe!

I’m not sure that figure is original to the plaque. Looks like a different material and a little oddly placed. (But I’ve been wrong many times)

Might be the material girl Madonna - but not the one you're asking about. I think the bust looks like resin, not plaster, but I could be wrong.

I felt the same. I thought the plaque maybe 1920s and the bust for sure 1960s.

Maybe @Bronwen has an idea of who the figure might be.

In truth the whole thing is odd. The shield outline is not quite symmetric, with one side higher than the other. The scrollwork isn't level and the candle holders don't sit at the same height. The anchors are similar in the back with countersunk nuts that look to be somewhat handmade, or someone cut off the corners of hex nuts. The Medusa, as the wife calls it, is not square across the bottom either.

    Sorry Memobug,
I re-read your post, and you did say the bust is plaster.
    SORRY
    (Still not Madonna)

Bronwen has no idea who she is. Not religious, classical mythology, possibly allegorical, the personification of something. Her head wear, & maybe the fleur de lis above her are meant to tell us something, but...? Certainly not Joan of Arc!
Looks like a mashup of imagery, so not sure what to credit as having meaning.
She is quite modern. The sensibility is sort of Italian, more likely a Chinese idea of Italian.
The flat plaque & the molded decorations were made separately, with the decorations then having to be applied. Not surprising there is a difference in color & application not completely symmetrical.
