    Sort of reminds me of cactus art sculpture I've seen in the south west.

    Yes, it does appear to be a piece of cactus that someone has used to make a sculpture. Cactus "skeletons" are often used for decorative items as well.

    It is not cholla wood,the cactus is hollow above the base.

Looks like TJMaxx/Home Goods type. But don’t know if they sold the whole piece or the base was repurposed.

    It does look very reminiscent of the SW items made from cactus sections - but those have holes that are considerably more uniform, and go all the way through. Trying to remember what they are called...
    But I'm pretty sure Kardinal's item is a driftwood piece that has been chewed on by marine "shipworms" (teredos), or similar worm-eaten wood.
