Photos from WW1 Stanford Conn.

Hello I recently found a group of old photos in a long forgotten box of postcards, these are all dated from WW1 and show soldiers in Stamford Conn with gas masks loading,and conveying some kind of material in drums, they all have writing on them by presumably the person who took the photos, some even have materials in drums, ie sulphuric aci,listed. some also say Stamford Gas plant, I have searched the internet and cant find anything relevant, Is there anyone on here who lives in that area, and can share local history, I have contact a museum up there also but so far no reply. unfortunately there are no surnames listed just initials , any help appreciated, thank you.

Like Fig said, ask the Stamford Historical Society. If anyone knows, they will.

 

I can't add anything to what's in Terry and Fig posts above. I learned from them that Chloropicrin was made in Stamford. Nasty stuff. After all that work we should get to look at some of the pichurs, no?

She did say that she contacted a museum there but they haven't gotten back to her yet. I'm not sure whether it was the same organization or somebody different.
