    Agree, amethyst.
    Could be Chinese.

Completely agree. Definitely looks like carved amethyst (good stone to wear for those celebrating Thanksgiving today; it was supposed to keep you from getting drunk) and China a major producer.

Some may prefer to be 'methystmenos' (μεθυσμένος, drunk) on such a day.

Not really. Drunksday is the day before; we tend to want to eat turkey sober, or most people do. I agree that it's probably Chinese-carved amethyst though. The color may be enhanced somehow, but since they generally only use flawed stones for carving (it makes the carving show up more) possibly not.

JMHO, no one can ID as stone positively from a photo. Take it to a jeweler who can test it to make sure what it is.

It's a color zoned amethyst, not too hard to identify.

    hmm.... I don't think it's chinese.

It looks like a sunflower, and the sunflower is the national flower of Russia.
So why not we guess it is russian?
I agree it is amethyst purple quartz.
