I have the oval (approximately 1 3/4" x 1 3/8") pendant. Anyone have any information about it? Material? I heated up a hat pin and it didn't penetrate on the backside.

Also I have a set of unmarked clip on earrings that seems like they would be awkward to wear. They measure 2 3/4" long. I'm guesstimating 1950's? Any other info would be appreciated. Feel like a plastic material of some sort.

Where are all the jewelry people?! Looks like carved red coral maybe? There are ways to test but wait for the knowledgeable people!:)

It doesn't quite feel like glass Bob

Can you get just that part next to your face and see if it's cold?

Could the earrings be enamel over metal?

KOT, yes I was able to touch the "carved" part to my lips and it does feel cool.

I tested the earrings with a hot pin and it melted right in.

Based on what I see on the back, the pendant is glass, the earrings are called "ear climbers" :)

Thanks, Does glass help date the pendant? Are the ear climbers ca1950's like I'm guessing?

Cold will mean glass not plastic.

Yes, not much resale value, and a good thing since you did the hot pin test.

    Red coral.

Hot pin.... ARGGGGG! Never! 1950s or60s celluloid or similar, and I'd wear them. So would many of my goth and wiccan friends.

Agree, no hot pin. Better ways to test! :)

Thinking this pendant must be glass, the link I posted has the exact same pendant inside the setting, different color, flower for flower the same design (except mounted upside down from this one??) No question that one is glass.

I agree, glass. I see a lot of these 'faux coral' pendants and brooches.

Tested on the back side of course :)

The "hot pin test" is destructive, even when done on the back.

We "antiquers" can help you to figure out WHAT you've got without that!

Most jewelry collectors would rather stick ourselves with the hot pin than the jewelry! ARGGGH! It's a good thing those earrings are molded 50s plastic rather than celluloid. Celluloid ones might have gone up in flames. As the others have said, the pendant is molded glass; it's probably early 1970s or something like that.

Both could have been made in any number of places; even if you restrict yourself to American factories there were a few hundred capable of making one or the other.
