    Hello jewelies,

Can anyone tell from these pictures what the centerpiece cameo is made of? I think it looks glass but I cannot tell.

Seller has it listed as an “estate” item which does nothing to provide details for origin. :bored: The back is stamped 925 for sterling and the bracelet shows no other distinctive markings. The pearls seem real. It seems a rather newer item. Opinions are appreciated, is this worth collecting? I really wish there was a side view of her face (like there is the back of her head).

My first push was "molded" but I think she may be carved.

    I'm not sure.

If it is cold to the touch I'd say glass, and I agree, those cultured pearls and crimp beads are newer.

@Bronwen will probably have seen the cameo before and know the manufacturer.;)

I think molded. I think plastic. I think maybe celluloid.

@Bronwen will not agree. (We have had this conversation before regarding celluloid. :joyful:)

I've not seen her before, she's pretty fabulous. May have to dig out the plastics books.

I know nothing on that subject, but if she is contemporary to the pearls and they are newer, then she is not celluloid.

I'm still voting plastic, but think everyone (including @BMRT ) is working off of just photos.

    No touching!

... I was going to switch to glass, but oops, I looked at it for too long and now I don't know what it is.... :p:bag:

It does look like plastic, and I forgot that BMRT probably doesn't have it in hand, so can't feel if it is cold.:banghead:
Oh dear.:cyclops: (just wanted to use that cyclops emoji again)

Also very glass like. :bucktooth: I just can't see any of the "little nibbles" damage I would expect to see on glass.

Especially on a bracelet. If it was ever worn, and glass, I think it would be beat to...well, very beat.

And where it's popped above the setting, that looks like plastic behavior.

I am not that well acquainted with plastic behaviour, plastics tend to behave well in my presence.
Except for the occasional plastic lid flying through the air, but that may have to do with my butterfingers.:shame:

I wonder if that is wheat on her shoulder? Ceres?

The pearls look like recent Chinese freshwaters from here. They're so cheap there's no point in using fakes on real sterling findings. I'd say the whole thing is either brand new or close. The cameo is molded ... something.

I agree, recent Chinese freshwater pearls. I see that dull banding that comes with very thinly pearlized cultured pearls. Leaving them in the shell long enough to get a proper layer costs too much.:(
Swarovski probably does a better job of getting a good layer on their imitation pearls.

Yep, I'm now in the freshwater pearl camp. If imitation, of course, each would likely be the same shape.
I did say it was a quick first impression, LOL!

Dynastic plastic fantastic. That was a bit gymnastic.

I'm not being sarcastic. Or monastic.

    That was the-last-stick. :bag::p

Is this thread becoming a bit ecclesiastic?;)
