Have base for clear (EAPG? Hard for me to tell if later?) punch bowl. Just about everyone I look at seems to be a variant with the stars etc. Anyone recognize it off hand? Thanks -- pattern would be so helpful, maker even better.

Check Imperial "Broken Arches." I'm pretty sure it's a match.

    Who names these patterns?

People who didn't have access to original names/numbers, and felt the need for a name. I can sympathize with them, but now that Imperial No. 733 is known it should be only known as that.

the punch bowl set is included in one catalog along with the NUCUT pieces and noted as "Snap 14" set containing punch bowl, stand and 6 cups. Another catalog includes the #7339 for the punch set and 733 for the cup. Collectors and authors feeling the need for names typically used a major motif to describe the pattern, whereas mfg. usually would create a more imaginative names.

I had an amethyst Carnival bowl and stand. Looking for cups burned the pattern into my brain. Carnival collectors call it Broken Arches. I can spot it from 100 paces. The hunt did help me score a set of four dark amethyst Imperial Carnival Chatalain tumblers though. 4/$100.:) If only they had the pitcher.:(

Carnival collectors do seem to be not too bothered with original makers names in general; Broken Arches is a collectors name. DDoty is a nice site for carnival glass even tho' a bit tricky to navigate. It would be nice if the site did have more info on actual dates and references to manufacturers' color names as well. I find it very interesting to learn the original makers names for patterns and colors.
