    Hi dear Members,

Here is my latest purchase, it's a small (2,3cm x 2cm) crescent moon brooch with very sparkling stones.
The brooch is made in silver and the clasp was replaced at some point (back looks a bit messy). There is no any hallmark, I guess was lost with original clasp.

I assume the stones are paste, however there are few questions regarding them:

    1. The blue stones have different colour shades - is it normal for paste?
    2. The clear stones have some dark inclusions inside, some of them are larger than another, and one stone is almost clear (I looked at them under magnifying glass) - could it be that it was used glass with inclusions? And why would they use glass with inclusions?
    3. Do paste stones react to the UV light?

As always, I would be thankful for all opinions)) IMG_9186 Large.jpeg

Could it be dirt trapped in the closed back? Moist or something

I've saw same discolouration in old paste piece

Not sure, I had a thought maybe if the stones were foiled, it's the foil that came off...

    Sweet brooch, nastina.
Can you test them, or have them tested?

    Sweet moon!
Pastes is most probable. Some inside impurities or spots on the foil rather than inclusions IMO.
Some pastes are made with UV reactive glass and may fluoresce bright green:blackalien::). The difference in color of some blue "stones" may be explained by replacements.
Your piece was intended to wear too as a hair ornament with a threaded pin screw in the hole, as this one Resized_Screenshot_20240625_170113_Pinterest~2_665520364674438.jpeg

I only have a UV flashlight, that's how it looks under it (in photos it's more pink, but in life it was more blue)

However, I just came from a local jeweller and he told me that it doesn't look like a glass, more like some kind of crystal (rock crystal maybe).

Hairpin makes sense. I'd bet the pin got lost and someone converted it into a brooch. It's a crescent moon. A "new" moon is totally dark or close to it.

I thought such type of pins were always two in one: brooch and hairpin.
Crescent moon, right, I'm very bad in astronomy:joyful:
