    Hi all,

Picked this little box up today, 3.4" L x 3.4" W x 1.5" H. While the hinges don't look very old I thought it might have a little age to it? Or I could be totally wrong and it could be modern from India or somewhere like that! Any info appreciated! Thanks.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

I'd say it has some age....70's maybe....they were widely available back then...
    I had a Shesh Besh board...very similar.....

Looks like it is made from Mahogany, so probably does have some age. As Komokwa said it does look a bit 70's,

I'd call it parquetry, strictly speaking as it's geometric.

Yep. As above. A little souvenir from Granada, Spain. Could certainly be 1970s.

I've a couple of older ones bought on early trips to the Costa Brava by my parents. Like Toledo Ware, they got all over back then. These days, "tourist" wares tend to be more local.

it's in Moorish style that was brought also to "Spain" by the Northern African Islamic tribes.
before the "moros" came, both Granada and Toledo were under Visigothic rule , so Germanic.

lateron there were several very small distinctions between Mozarabic, Visigothic and later Mudejar styles. the differences follow the Islamic invasion, conquest of the Visigoths and lateron the Reconquista.
