Palm wood bow. Any comments?

Hi all,got this cool bow a few days ago (but let me be the first to say that the photos are not great). I have been reading about black palm wood bows. I don’t think it’s authentic tribal,but maybe just someone’s attempt at a good copy (some hand carving was also done).I don’t think it’s a mass produced souvenir or decorative thing. The bow feels like it can actually function. It’s 124cm long (a little short) and 3cm wide in middle. The bowstring is raw animal hide.. Any comments? Thank you and keep well

 

Since you're in South Africa, I wonder if it could be San? Palmwood is not a material I would associate with desert dwellers, but wdik.

Hi Any Jewelry and thanks for the comment. Yes,I have also never heard of or seen a San bow made of palmwood. San bows are also usually not this long (as the San are also a shorter people) Maybe this bow was just someone’s ‘project’

 

I would not dismiss it as not being genuine "tribal", but I am afraid I can't identify it. It is a pretty basic bow which could be from almost anywhere. Getting a positive identification of the wood might help, but it is unlikely that it would be definitive as to origin.
