Pair of Indian? brass vases - bit nicer than I usually find...

I usually pass on Indian brassware - but these caught my eye today and seemed a little more well crafted than most of the made in India stuff I see, so I picked up the pair for 10 bucks. The larger is 10 inches high. The smaller is about 5 inches high. Any idea on age of these? Are they from India? Typical 20th century export stuff?

Yes, they are from India, probably Kashmir.
It is a traditional style, with a clear Mughal (Moghul) influence. This style is made for both domestic and foreign markets. A lot of these vases, etc. came to the West in the sixties, I remember I had a little Kashmiri incense burner in those days.

 

These are nicer. Probably 50s or earlier.

 

Yes, these are certainly nicer than most, but there have always been differences in quality, depending on the artistry of the workshop.
