    Hi,
I have this little painting with several holes - 1 hole still have a bug inside, I'm sure he is dead. Would this be wood worm? The painting is on heavy cardboard but the back is wood. One area of the painting has two spots on the front that haven't gone all the way through - from the same type of bug? I've not seen anything like this before, kind of gross to see the bug. Should the wood back be thrown away?
    any information appreciated
    thanks for looking

If it hasn`t been done already,
Place it over plain background and keep tapping it, you will find a sawdust type debris fall out.
The woodworm is dead, it probably injested some toxic paint.
Sometimes infested items crumble from the inside out.
    Its not worth restoring.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I feel like I am watching National Geographic. I never saw a wood-worm before. There he is, poor little thing.
I say that's a nice little memorial for him.

thanks davey, I just gave it a try - lots of stuff fell out so I have tossed it. I'm not a big fan of bugs.
I've never seen one before either gila and hope I don't see one again.

    Hi,
I think I worst I ever saw a stack of books that were eaten through 6 books by one long worm hole.

I did find an Erwin Smyth who painted landscapes (dates uncertain... Victorian?) but couldn't find a signature and the only painting I found didn't look very similar.

I wonder how old that bug was? Not how old he was when he passed, but when he lived...?

That was a pretty piece before the Grace Hopper Memorial Army got hold of it. (bugs) The only thing worse than finding a worm in your book is finding half a worm in your apple. Happened to a cousin once.

The worm is actually a larvae like a maggot and when it exits the wood it becomes a beetle.

    Hi,
When I was in the Navy, we had "deserted island" survival. For a week we had to live off the land which included handfuls of all kinds of larvae.
