    Mo, can you still edit the title to include 'Chinese translation please'?
    The style could be Shanghai, made for export.
    Looks like ca 1890, but the back is not convincing, roughly hewn and strange rubbing, and the characters are not rubbed.
    But an attractive tray.

    Hi - thank you for your thoughts - -

    I see your point that the characters seem untouched compared to the rest of the bottom side

    I no longer see the edit option that would allow me to add the translation request

    See new image of lower right of painting- does that swiggle look like it could be information of some kind

    Looks to me like the front was obviously exposed to sunlight, whereas the back was not, which makes sense..............
