clutteredcloset49 Here is the bookcase we discussed. As you can see it is a Pacific Desk Company Finish 13 model. I googled it some time ago and saw another one that was supposedly from 1924. The bottom two compartments are in fairly good condition, but the top needs some work to get the glass face open and is missing the original knob. Restoration would be necessary and I'm not sure it would be worth the money. The top of the case is stained mahogany but has knotholes, so there might have had something else on top at one time. It fits under the plate rail in my dining room, so it is the right height but as you can see the rocks have migrated to the top, so I was going to try to get something wider to keep them all under glass. (Rocks are surprisingly hard to keep clean.) IMG_0229 (Small).JPG IMG_0230 (Small).JPG IMG_0232 (Small).JPG IMG_0234 (Small).JPG

What a nice collection of rocks.
    Did you find them yourself?

As for the bookcase, I would sell as is and not put money into it.

@verybrad - Kiko stated in another thread - "I have some cheaply made older pieces like a 1920's lawyer's bookcase that I want to upgrade"

Seems to me lawyer's bookcases still command a decent price.
Here in CA store prices are still about $100 a stacking unit, more for the solid oak. Is that what Midwest is getting?

Looks like the top is not original. These usually have a separate modular top unit that is a few inches tall. Base units are also separate and yours seems to have the original one. About $100.00 a stack plus another hundred for the top and bottom is the going rate here. If this had its top, this would be about $400.00. Without the top and in good condition otherwise, maybe half that.

Verybrad. Well that is a wonderment. I never thought I could get anything for it, so I was going to donate it. I have been searching around for another one. The oak ones that I have seen so far are priced in the $800 - $1000 range. Although my furniture is eclectic, most of it is in the reddish and brown shades so I try to avoid oak. I do have one of those ubiquitous oak dining tables with folding leaves under the top with the barley twist legs but it was stained a walnut color so it sorta fits. I'll continue to look for a new bookcase and try to sell this one then. Thanks for the pricing guide. Now if I only had yours, James Conrad clutteredcloset49 and the others
knowledge it would not be as precarious as it will be. Kiko

That's what this board is for.
    Post pictures and ask away.

The prices Brad and I quoted are store prices. We both sell retail. So selling privately, you would be asking less, and about 1/3 to a dealer on the bookcase.
Maybe a little more than 1/2 on Craigslist.

Will depend on how or to whom you intend to sell.

cluttered. You have no idea how much I appreciate you and the other members sharing their knowledge. The pricing is a bonus, as I would have no idea what I should expect.
