image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg So, here is our first buy from last weekends treasure hunt. It's approximately 4 inches tall and seems to be a picture of a small village with a statue and people on horseback. I have tried to search the internet for the makers mark on the base without any luck. I think it says "trunstone" but little James thinks it says "tauns tone"

It says Ironstone and I'm afraid it's a very very recent repro from China. I se lots of these. One of the clues is that blue tinge to the whole object. The other is the mark itself.

Thanks for your reply, that's our first buy and a spectacular fail but it's all fun and a great learning curve.

Probably most of us have been fooled by a fake, especially when we were starting out. Here is a website with with some fake marks, including one like or very similar to yours.

It's decorative, so unless you paid an arm and a leg, don't worry too much. I've a habit of buying all sorts to simply learn from it.

Ask yourself if the condition looks too "perfect" for something that is supposed to be old. A vintage piece would likely have signs of use and some crazing/discoloration.

Daft thing is, was looking at an auction preview today at a large chinese foot bath, crazed with some underglaze staining. BUT, no wear, and the mark was a fake mark so those ageing signs were false.

For 1.5 pounds.......I wouldn't be surprised if you could make a couple pounds on it resale. It is an attractive decorative piece after all. If I was decorating my kitchen with blue and white.....I would probably pay up to 4 pounds for it.

That sort of yellowish tint in the glaze gives the recent ones away. Weve ALL bought this stuff at one time or the other !

All I can say is thank you, if we lose out we have learned a lot. Tonight we will photo the silver glazed pot and the brown pot, we also brought some pot clogs in blue, I will look at them very closely before taking images to see if I have learned anything.
