    Looks like bone and from someplace in Asia.

    I agree, bone. Could be Africa as well as Asia. There is not much to go by.
    Maybe @kristiaan can see if it bears any resemblance to carvings in his Congolese collection?

    The Novica website has Ghanian bone rings on it right now, but odds are they're carved all over the place. Artisans use what they can get their hands on, and the bone from the soup would be a good piece to use.
