It's Chinese. Does look vintage but they're hard to date as style stays much the same. Yours appears to be full and boxy with shoulder darts, puffed shoulder and 3/4 sleeve. If I had to guess, I'd think 1950s or a bit earlier. Someone else may know better than I.

That's brilliant info thanks Deb, that's the sort of date I was hoping

It's too petite for my mannequin, but my sister's got a female adjustable one, so hopefully will picture better on that

Not sure what colour you would call it ?

I'd call it cream or champagne. But color may appear different on my computer. If you want to find similars on internet, search term is "vintage Chinese brocade satin jacket."

    Good find Charlie.

Thanks Deborah because I would have wondered about this because the Qing era silk robes can fetch very high prices amd i would have started comparing. I am not all that familiar with the different chinese style in clothes. The detail in the jacket is lovely, I am sure the baddie in some James Bond movie wore a jacket like this and it definetly has been in some of those 1960 Bruce lee movies.

You'll want to identify if made of silk or manmade fibers as that effects value.

Yeah good point I'll try a strand test tomorrow and let you know

Wasn't cheap cheap (£20) but I still like it for that

Getting harder and harder to find vintage clothing, especially in charity shops

Maybe not needed for this post, but always a good idea to show a photo of the size tag. Sometimes the font or style of the tag can be a clue to age.

If I had to guess I'd say 40s/50s maybe, based on the shoulder pads and general look --but agree these can be somewhat hard to date.

Agree re tag. Also -- in general -- stickers and labels. (But tired of nagging re same.)

Can you post a photograph of the shoulder pads? (Didn't see your mention of them before. Apologies.)

What shape are the shoulder pads? Do they seem exaggerated or soft and round?

Definitely soft and round, almost like a bean bag feeling, meaning not spongy

I'd stay with 1950s then. That's what one would expect from New Look on into the decade.

I'll lay odds this was made in Hong Kong and either exported to here or bought there. It's a post war European size label too.

I've a fair few of these, including a couple bought new in HK in the late 80s, as well as vintage ones. The style really hasn't changed over much.

Those poppers look more fifties into sixties to my eye. Might be silk, but many were rayon.
