Just before I left for vacation, I did a search for an artist's autograph that I'd never even searched for before. I did it for a specific reason, and don't remember the reason.

The attached jpg popped up for sale on ebay. It was cheap, well under $10 with free s/h. Max Steiner is the biggest name in film score composing. He did Gone With The Wind, Casablanca, Now Voyager, Mildred Pierce and a few hundred other films you've heard of and if you're a film fan, you saw.

The problem with this sheet music is, that doesn't look in the slightest like Max Steiner. There's no X, and the first name is more than 3 letters, and the last name seems to begin with an L. It's not the lyricist.

I did a search for authenticated Steiner autographs, and came upon an 8 x 10 of him inscribed to a sound recorder. His signature also didn't look like his name. But, it was. What's more, it's extremely similar to the uniqueness of this signature.

I bought the piece and sure enough it's Max Steiner's autograph. He signed it Maxie.
I paid under $7 for an autograph worth over $900. This is getting a special mat and be hung next to my Hank Williams Sr autograph.

Sr is one of my favorites. It was on craigslist cheap for Sr. I emailed him late at night, and drove the 100 miles the next morning.

When we got there, he was on the phone with a guy begging him not to sell it to me. He'd pay him triple. Which was still a bargain. He refused. He kept his word and sold it to me for the original price. He told us the story of his sister and Aunt travelling to Mississippi to see Hank and meeting him after the show. I bought a bunch of other stuff from him also. I have it matted with 4 rare photos of Hank. It's a highlight of my collection, next to Carole Lombard and Norma Shearer.
