Older looking brass woman thing

I'm not sure if this is brass or what . Does anyone know anything about this thing ?
What it is etc.

Maybe a leg or stand for something? Looks like it's probably spelter or pot metal painted gold...would be my guess.

 

With the back end being flat, I suspect a bookend. Not sure why she is flat on top. Brass plated pot metal.

 

Missed the flat side - agree it's a bookend. And I knew I'd seen this somewhere before - it's a copy of a caryatid (ancient greek column made to look like a woman).
