Featured Old Wood Plane

    Unfortunately the grip got broken at some point. I don’t think it’s an antique or anything but it looks like it’s ‘been around the block’.
    It’s on the bigger side, probably 16-18” long.

    You have a pretty nice example of a 'transitional' bench plane. These planes were made after the entirely wooden-bodied planes and before the steel bed types.

    Winchester dallied in the hardware trade between about 1919 and 1930. (Other manufacturers made the tools to Winchester specs.) Winchester tools are generally highly collected. Unfortunately transitional planes haven't been all that popular in the plane-collecting world.

    Your example is looks extra-nice to me. It looks like you have the chip that broke off the tote (handle.) It's a common break. (I'd glue it.)
