    Hi Everyone

Can someone help please due to my recent sisters passing I need to start emptying her house. She had a lot of antique furniture u nfortunately I really know nothing about the items. She had an old chest very big and heavy. It looks really old ? has an engraving of some sort of ship which as a crack in it. I am attaching a few pictures I wonder if anyone knows anything about it or can point me in the right direction.

    Thank you for much

Picture is too dark to tell much but appears to be Chinese.

The carving on top looks like a Chinese Junk boat. Wait for the more knowledgeable furniture people to have a look. If you can it’s always best to show construction joints, size, inside and backs of pieces etc and any other knowledge you have.

Hello, Lorraine. I'm sorry we are meeting you under these circumstances. Are you having difficulty loading more photos? The usual problem is that the file size is over 1MB. The furniture people will probably want more to go on. If you are using a phone, you can e-mail pix to yourself, selecting a medium setting beforehand, & then use those.

I've enlarged it and made it a little lighter.

From the lock it does appear to be Chinese in origin.

Time period on these can be hard to determine.
They were very popular in mid 1900s.

Do you know how long she had it?

    Welcome to the board.
We're sorry for your loss, but are here to help the best we can.
