I have an old stoneware pitcher I am trying to identify. On the one side there is a man with a musket and his dog talking to a woman next to a fence. On the other side is a bell with the word Boy in it. This measures 6 3/4" tall and is 5 1/8' wide. There are no maker's marks.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Good link, janetpjohn -- I see what looks like the same pitcher on the 5th page in your link. Although Whites imitated German pieces, the word "Boy" is on this one with what looks sort of like the Liberty Bell, so it may be an original design?

Thanks for all of the help. Definitely looks like Whites Utica.

They were pretty optimistic about it ahead of time, weren't they?

Odd .... I didn't even see that. It says that the starting bid was $50.00 but it sold for $20.00. Maybe the starting bid was for on-line bidding. Could have sold for less in-house I guess.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

If there's no reserve the auctioneer at their discretion can bring the opening bid down to where ever they think will get a bite.

Kasper will tell you all about this one day ! :D:D:D
