Old Stoneware Jug

    Picked up this jug today at a sale. Stands 12" tall. From Pittsfield Mass. Not having much luck with the name on the jug.

    Doesn't look very old. Can we see the bottom? Does it have a handle?

    Its been cleaned up. it was pretty dirty.

    This kind of decor is often the manufacturer of the contents and not the maker of the jug itself. I just tried finding a James Eagen in Pittsfield, Mass on Ancestry to see if there was a man of that name in the kind of business that would have needed jugs. There was one possibility in the 1900 Census as a Grocer, but no one else in a likely occupation at any other time. Plenty of James Eagens, but nothing likely.

    Have you thought about sending an inquiry and pics to Crocker Farm?

    You could try looking for Jasper Eagen too, just in case.
