Featured old signed dutch dress drawing

    hi folks

    something i found today in my friends house clearance shop
    quite small and pencil drawn
    drawn on laid paper
    states 19c dutch dress on reverse
    cant quite make out signature
    found amongst other paper type things, unframed

    any thoughts or info appreciated

    Very nice, charlie, but neither dresses or hats are Dutch. I would guess French or Belgian.

    Probably not told off, maybe "boys are only after one thing". (This brought joy to the young maiden's heart.:pompous::hilarious:)

    I think the signature may be C. L. H. and then artist added his full name. Long shot but... Try Charles Leonard Hartwell.

    Not sure about that laid paper. Is the drawing on a sheet mounted to another sheet? Are you showing the texture of the paper that has the drawing, or the texture of a backing sheet?

    hard to tell as its stuck down and being double layoured you cant see through the drawing part as well, think i can see lines though, will get a photo done

    Quite decent little sketch.Ted Danson-a story board from 'Cheers' ?.

    i think your right that they are 2 different types of paper, just presumed that they were both the same

    Just looked at Charles Leonard Hartwell signature from a letter he wrote in 1921 ( in Getty Research Institute ) and IMO not the same as on drawing,actually very different.Also could find no drawings by him on line.

    Thanks for checking Hartwell signature. He was trained as a sculptor so longest of long shots.

    Their hands are poorly drawn. I almost feel like I've seen this painting before so I'm thinking it's a student copy of a painting.

    That older lady really looks like a man to me (face and square hands) Maybe: Please don’t tell your mother I like to dress-up :)
