Picked this up at the cshop because I thought it wasn’t machine made and was made from wool. It’s about 9ft long, 5 and half ft wide. Very hairy, stuck it on the washing line to vacuum later.
The back of the label has a lead lump attached with old staples and has a few random numbers printed on it. The front has a short pile. Does anyone recognise the designs as being specific to anywhere and I’m wondering roughly when it was made. Thanks. I’m having a few problems with the size so will have to cut the pics down. Sadly all are too big so this is all I can show at the moment.

Don't take my word for it, but it looks Turkish to me.

Takes me back to my Akitas hair filling the hoover bag every week despite regular grooming. She was like a dandelion clock all year really. I used her hair to stuff into skirting board gaps and the birds grabbed lots for nesting.

Funny. You got some mileage out of her fur.

I was told they blow their coat twice a year when we got ours. More like twice a week! But, I would gladly sweep the floor, and vacuum carpets every day, if my furry little buddy could still be with me.

Can you show at least one full view?

I resize mine down to 900 pixels wide using toolwiz (on my phone) and that usually works...

    Afghan? Just guessing :)

... "Fil Pai" design or "Elephant Feet" as the large repeating pattern gives the impression of an elephants footprint

Below is Afghan Red Rug (Aqcha) Rug with Fil Pai

Thank you Scouts, as you say, I think it does have these shapes and the red colour seems in keeping with Afghan. I'm on an ipad and have an ipad mini so I've Photoed the pictures from the larger ipad and hope it works. It's pretty heavy so you can see half of it hanging over the washing line.

Thanks Komo, I’ve had a good look around and it seems the Afghan and the Turkoman have similar design elements that appear in their rugs. Think the Turkomans do have more of the white wool in their designs as mine has. Never bought anything like this before and surprised to see what a huge subject it is and how the antique pieces can fetch monster sums. Think mine is probably around 1950s/70s, one corner is nearly worn down to the wefts but the rest has been protected. I’ve done ok though as it only cost me £6.
