20180331_194557.jpg So my wife and I got a house not too long ago and we found this watch. It seems like a real rolex, but I am not sure what year or model it is. Hopefully there is a rolex expert here that can steer me in the right direction.

Looks like a Fauxlex. A look at the movement would help to confirm.

I'm about 99% sure this is fake, but I have been wrong before. My understanding is the Day feature should always show the day. (It flips over at midnight) So, you will never see a partial day ie: Half of Thursday and part of Friday

    Hi,
If the second hand sweeps around it is real if it clicks for a partial second each second it is a fake. That is the easiest way to tell.

It's certainly been around the block. And the band has been changed from the original by (given its style) an older owner. I suspect it's real but here's some more helpful ways -- in addition to above -- of how to examine. IMO, always easiest to take to a Rolex dealer. The model is Day-Date. Here's a current example.

Ya, I figured out it is a day date and an oyster perpetual, but I didn't know the model type. I have a hunch it is real cause the previous owners could definitely afford it and due to the quality of all their other stuff. They were engineers and the guy loved authentic things and even rebuilt older cars. If it is fake, I will just have a fake rolex instead of real rolex. Unfortunately, it does not work, so checking authenticity is extremely hard. Btw, thank you for all the help thus far!

See all the pitting on the brackets? I highly doubt a "real" rolex would have that problem.

Easy to ascertain if faux or not. Any certified Rolex dealer or reputable dealer can do so.

I'll have to check when I get home, but it isn't the origional for sure (if it is a real rolex).

    @Debora

Ya, that was the next step I was going to do if nobody knew what it was on here.

Also, the window for the date appears to be on the small side. I'm still sticking with my 99% fake

Ya, I've been questioning it since I found it. If it is a fake, it's no real loss to me. The date is magnified though, the watch is heavy, and the dial on the side is engraved (I'll get a picture of that this evening), so that is what lead me to it being real.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Where in the house did you find it? Was it hidden, or had it been lost behind a wall or a chair cushion, etc.? No reason to ask except that I love stories about how people find things.

BTW, the WikiHow link that Debora included has lots of things to check, only some of which require the watch to be in running condition. So, while you still should take it to somebody (since it's not running and you can't check some things), the results of the other tests could add to your assessment of it.

I don't really have an opinion... you didn't show the back of it, either, or the works inside. Some people here might be able to tell more if you do that.

the movement is key......but things are staking up against it's authenticity...
and maybe that's why it was left behind........no great loss !

It's a pretty boring story. It was in a drawer in the bathroom with some other stuff, lol. I don't want to risk opening it, but I can show the back when I get home this evening.

And if it is fake, there is no reason to cry over spilt milk, lol.

Thank you -- I always wonder why people leave things where they do, or if something is just overlooked in the haste to pack. When I moved into this house 12 years ago I didn't find much, but there were a couple of things... two small ceramic figurines in a drawer in the basement laundry room, along with a builder's drawing of the back section of the house, which was added in the 1970s. I left the drawing where it was and the figurines were pretty cheap and kitschy. I threw them out but perhaps should have kept them as the house's mascots.

The back should hvve a milled edge to engage with the opening tool, The crown looks as if it is not screwed down. Push in and turn in a 'winding up' direction, the crown should screw down. This is not a feature of most fakes.
It may be not working due to long neglect. Wear it for a day and see if it starts working,, even if only intermittently. Heat and movement can free a gummed up train.
There should be a number between each pair of strap lugs.

I cleaned out dads place twice..& moms....all bathroom drawers were left open...with maybe some Q-tips & a band aid left behind.

@daveydempsey , could speak to stuff left in the bathroom , better than I.
