    Dear All,
I found this painting on wood in my family home and I was wondering if anyone could help me evaluate the painting and its origin and the year it was made.
    Thanks beforehand!

Where is the family home? And do you have any idea how long it's been there?

The horizontal pieces across the back are 1960s or later, but the original painting..no clue.

Welcome, Dimitris. As Bev suggested, can you please go back and edit your post, and select "Full Image" for your photos (rather than "Thumbnail"). It makes it easier for us to see them.

    How big is the painting?

Details of construction can be informative. The horizontal pieces of wood screwed to the back appear to be more recent than the main boards, and were probably added to try to prevent further splitting. Can you confirm that the cracks in the painting's surface correspond to the splits/gaps between the boards visible on the back?

Can you please post additional photos of the edges of the painting - both around the painted surface, and the actual edges of the boards? Can you see any evidence of a layer of a textile, or perhaps paper, glued to the boards before the paint was applied?

    Thanks everyone!

@2manybooks Please note that there may be a layer placed on the wood in order for the painting to be made as the cracks in the painting's surface do not exactly correspond to the splits/gaps between the boards visible on the back.
    Dimensions 42x32x2 (cm)

Never seen one on three panels before.

Maybe the three panel backing caused the front piece to split. Or, nefarious people made it look old.

The construction is not what I would have expected, with two layers of wood. The same ground preparation and paint appear to cover both layers on the edges, so both appear to be original to the construction. Odd.

The style also reminded me of the Fayum portraits, but I think this is larger than those typically are.

There are just a lot of features we can't assess from photographs, so I think Bev's suggestion of taking it to a museum may be your best option.
